Circular Octagonal Sterling Silver Gilt Sugar Bowl
Antique sterling silver sugar bowl by Benjamin Preston 1844.
Antique silver & gilt sugar bowl from the early Victorian period. Of good size & gauge sugar bowl, double handle design, of circular form with eight panels. Each panel is elaborately engraved with scrolls, flora with a chased bouquet to four panels. Two of the eight panel engraved with cartouche, one with floral design & the other with a lion crest. Four scrolls top the sugar bowl perimeter with matching scroll feet to base. Light detailing to handles of sugar bowl with ornate ferrules to top connection. The base of the sugar bowl is hallmarked with a full set of London assay marks, with makers mark also struck to one of the side panels.
Nice size silver sugar bowl, of good weight & gauge. Interior good with light marking, gilt rubbed slightly. Sugar bowl sits flat & level with surface marks representative of age, small corner marks to panels with pinhead indentations. Engraving is partially rubbed with loss to some line engraving, no major dents, tears or repairs
