Antique sterling silver George III Coffee Pot by Daniel Pontifex 1799
George III vase shaped coffee pot by this renowned silversmith Daniel Pontifex. The coffee pot is hand engraved to the body, base foot & lid in fauna decoration. The lid is flared slightly in form with an integral flush hinge, topped with a closed bud finial.
The body has two engraved but vacant wreath cartouche which are unmarked & have not had any monogram removal subsequently no thinning. The handle has been made from fruitwood with thumb rest incorporated. Fluted panels are vertically formed to the handle & spout ends. The silver coffee pot sits on an oval pedestal base foot with flutes replicating the body design. Assay marks are to be found on the side of the coffee pot foot, along with passant mark to the inside of the lid.
What a remarkable piece of English silver we have, everything about this piece shouts quality.
The lid sits flush in its rebate without play. The fruitwood handle is all good with connection to ferules secure.
The silver coffee pot is in great condition without dents and deep scratches, with engraving in good order, surface marks representative of age, all sits flat and level. The foot marks are rubbed slightly as you would expect for age but all legible, assay mark to lid is crisp.
